My Calling... My Passion... My Art

Image
I was contacted by a charity that asked me to consider setting aside some of my profit for a good cause. That call completely changed my life. It was then that I realized my purpose. I always had a strong urge to paint but as I slowly paved my way something felt very wrong. The first check I sent to a cause felt so wonderful! I suddenly felt my purpose and it has now become my passion. Please visit my gallery at: www.artpal.com/christinabellart  ~Christina

I absolutely love backlighting some of my paintings. I love being able to see the paint strokes.  This particular painting I combined with Phosphorescent paint so the image of the "tree that used to be" is illuminated when all lights are turned off. It had a rather long name...  "If I Squint My Eyes In The Dark" (I can still see our favorite tree) Acrylic on canvas

Sacred Heart by David M. Sanders

Image
Now... This artist is someone who is very near and dear to me. He is far from me now (distance) which makes me very sad. He is the most amazing painter and he gave me permission to display his work on my blog. This is his painting of Sacred Heart which used to be on Roosevelt Island. When we were young we would explore this abandoned beauty... David Sanders painted this as it would have looked in the 1930s... It was St. Mary's back then. Tell me this isn't gorgeous!

Absolutely amazing! I drew the same woman with crayon when I was 12 years old!  Guess she lingered in my subconscious and revisited in my painting "And So She Was Summoned"

More Sketches

Another sketch of U2. This was the October album cover from 1980? '81? As you can tell I very much liked them as a young teen.

Sweet little sketch of a farm. Dated '78 "Dreamer".... No clue what this was about. I did ride and show horses when I was younger. Could that be a stairway to heaven? Lol. Who knows!

I found a number of sketches I did when I was very young. I want to document them here as they are slowly falling apart. Many of them I don't recall but these were drawn when I was anywhere from around 10 years old to 15. I do remember when I was young I would prefer to walk around with my sketch pad then play with other kids. This drawing brought back a flood of memories. This was a bench by the seawall on Roosevelt Island. I have fond memories of climbing those trees when I was real young. And I vaguely remember seeing a man resting on that bench getting Sun on his back. I must have sat on the grass and quickly sketched this.  Not sure but maybe this is a sketch of "The Edge" from U2.  I think this is a self portrait. This one says "Man in a dark alley" I'll post more when I have more time. Wrapping up Softball season at my daughter's school.
